Garlic is considered to be the King of Herbs for its therapeutic, gastronomic and medicinal virtues that popular culture attributes to this extraordinary plant used since 3000 b.C.
It was eaten and used as medicament by the Babylonians, Jews, Arabs and Egiptians who considered it to be “holy”.
Romans considered it to be a symbol of military virtues for its hygienic and fortifying properties. Throughout the Middle Ages it was used to fight plague, and during the Second World War, soldiers used it to dress wounds. In Calabria, Garlic grows everywhere, but in Papaglionti, a province of ViboValentia, it has been cultivated for centuries.
Gastronomic Use: in many vegetables, meat, fish and past dishes (garlic, extra virgin olive oil and chilli), in sauces, meat sauces, on pizzas and toasted bread.
Therapeutic properties: It reduces the risk of tumours and cardiovascular problems, it is bactericidal and antiseptic. It contains Vitamin A, B and C.
