The word Oregano derives from Greek and it means “mountain”, in fact it is a wild plant which grows on the mountains even if it prefers naked stoney valleys filled with spontaneous vegetation.
It is one of the mostly used ingredients in the Calabrian cuisine, it is used in many dishes but it is preferred in preserves because of its aroma and taste which it adds to food. Oregano is considered to be a plant which brings relief, comfort and health, today as in the past.
Gastronomic Use: It is used in various dishes and preserves, also for meat or fish dishes.
Therapeutic properties: Its essential oil is used a lot in aromatherapy, it is beneficial to the respiratory system, it is used to soothe cough, it is useful for digestion because it stimulates the secretion of gastric juice.
It is an antalgic, antiseptic, analgesic and antispasmodic.
